Potterne - A Village in Lockdown

Potterne - A Village in Lockdown

Stuart Bridewell says: "As a photographer I felt it right to record, through imagery, the way this Wiltshire village has coped with the current pandemic and what effect it has had on us all. I’ve been bowled over by the resilience, kindness, selflessness and generosity that the majority of villagers have displayed."

NEW! ----- "Where in Potterne?" Quiz 6 ----- NEW!

The Potterne quiz team have been "on vacation" for a few weeks, but with Half Term upon us they have been hard at work concocting a quiz for you to enjoy in your spare time. The prize? Well, no prize as such, except seeing your name in lights on the internet and the satisfaction of knowing that you know more about Potterne than anyone else!

Follow this link to the Quiz page in the Gallery - you need to download "Where in Potterne" Quiz 6... at the bottom of the page.
Potterne Angel Trail

Potterne Angel Trail

St Mary’s Church in Potterne is currently organising an Angel Trail to take place over the weekend of 5th/6th December, between 10am - 2pm on each day. There will be an Adult Trail and a trail for children. (Similar to Scarecrow Trails in local villages.) Entry sheets will be available for purchase for £1 from the Information Point at the old Potterne School site on the day. There will be prizes for the entries with the most correct answers.

Not only would we like you to come along and solve the clues, but we would also like to invite you, the good people of Potterne, to take part in setting the Trail.

You can do this in a number of ways:

  1. Decorate an Angel (download template here) and display in a window at home.
  2. Make an Angel from natural materials and bring along to the church to decorate the Christmas tree, which will be located in the churchyard. For suggestions, follow link: https://peacebutnotquiet.com/pinecone-angels.
  3. Display a ready-made clue at your home: in your window or garden.
  4. Make your own clue and display it in your window or garden.

Our themes this year are Christmas Carols and Songs.

If you would like to take part, or have any queries, please contact ONE OF THE ORGANISING TEAM (see below) before 20th November.

Potterne's first ever ‘Drive-in’ Harvest Festival

Two beeps of the car horn for 'Amen'

On Sunday, 4th October, The Wellsprings Benefice team held a Drive-in Harvest Celebration at Five Lanes Farm

While the weather was not as kind as hoped (those organising the event were thoroughly drenched, and the number of cars was reduced in order to minimise damage to the field), the Harvest Festival was a huge success.

Transmitted on video via Zoom, and with Fantasy Radio kindly providing sound via loudspeaker and radio, the service was seen by many more than those attending in person. St Mary's Church and the Wellsprings Benefice team have received many well-deserved messages of congratulation.

You can watch the video of the drive-in Harvest Festival below:

The George & Dragon Inn

Re-Opened on Thursday 23rd July!

We were finally able to open on Thursday, 23rd July. Please click the buttons below for our new opening-hours poster along with opening date and our house rules and guidelines.

We are still doing takeaways but these will now be collection-only due to needing the staff to run the pub itself. We have discontinued the over-65s special menu as we move slowly towards normality.

Thank you for the great and positive feedback we've received, and look forward to welcoming you.

Best wishes, Louise

"St Mary's Potterne"
- an aerial video by Brian Teeder

Local helicopter pilot Brian Teeder made this superb aerial video of St Mary's Church, Potterne, to say "thank you" to Rev David and Ann Howard when they left Potterne.
(Brian is presently working on a new aerial video of Potterne, and has promised that we can premiere it on Potterne123 when it's finished.)
